A calm 3D tile-laying game. Draw hex tiles one at a time and grow a little island: join rivers to rivers and roads to roads, raise forests, fields and villages, and finish quests to earn more tiles. Your island is saved after every tile.

How to play

Tap a glowing spot to try your tile there; tap it again (or ⟳, or R) to turn it; press ✓ (or Enter) to place. Drag to pan, pinch or scroll to zoom. Discard (X) skips a tile that fits nowhere.

New in v1.0

First release: build a calm hex island tile by tile — match rivers, roads and meadows, grow villages into castles, and finish quests for more tiles.

How to play

Riverlands is a relaxed tile-laying game about building an island one hexagon at a time. Each turn you get one tile from the stack. Tap any glowing spot next to your island to try the tile there, tap again to turn it, and press ✓ to set it down.

Edges must match. A river edge has to meet another river, a road has to meet a road, and meadow has to meet meadow. Little green beads show which sides line up before you commit.

Scoring

  • Every tile you place scores 5 points for each neighbour it touches, so compact islands score more than long strings.
  • Fill a hole that closes on all six sides for a 40-point bonus and an extra tile.
  • When the stack runs out, your island is finished and your score goes on the board.

Quests

Flags appear over forests, fields, villages, rivers and roads, each with a number:

  • Forests, fields and villages must reach exactly that size. Grow them one tile too far and the quest is lost.
  • Rivers and roads need to reach at least that length.
  • Each quest has a timer counted in tiles placed. Finish in time to earn 4 to 6 new tiles plus points.

Quests are how a good island keeps going: plan which group you feed with each tile, and the stack never quite runs dry.

Your island grows with you

Villages start as a single cottage and gain a tavern, a church and finally a castle as they grow. Fields gain a windmill, and small woods become deep forest.

FAQ

Can I stop and come back later? Yes. Your island is saved after every tile. Tap Continue on the title screen to pick up where you left off.

What if a tile fits nowhere? Press Discard to skip it. It still uses up a tile from the stack, so it is worth keeping plenty of open meadow edges around.

Where do the models come from? The tiles, buildings and nature are from the KayKit Medieval Hexagon pack by Kay Lousberg, released under CC0.
