New in v1.2

Friends mode: private rooms without bots by default, rounds wait until everyone is ready, clearer results showing every player's place, year and points. Bots now guess real places. Fixed sideways scrolling on iPhone.

How to play

Each game has 7 rounds. Every round shows an invention or a famous first: the printing press, the first email, instant ramen, the first heart transplant. You make two guesses:

  1. Where: tap the world map to drop a pin where you think it happened. Drag to pan, and pinch, scroll or use the +/− buttons to zoom.
  2. When: pick the year with the slider, then fine-tune it with the ±1, ±10 and ±100 buttons (arrow keys work too).

Press Lock in. The reveal shows the real place as a star, a line from your pin, your points and a short fact.

Scoring

Each round is worth up to 1000 points: 500 for where and 500 for when.

  • Where: full marks within 25 km of the real spot, half marks at about 600 km, and almost nothing past 5,000 km.
  • When: how far off you can be grows with the item's age. Being 5 years off on the first email costs as much as being 200 years off on the first writing.

A perfect game is 7,000.

Multiplayer

  • Quick match drops you straight into a public game. Bots fill the empty seats and hand them over when real players arrive.
  • Play with friends creates a private room of up to 8 players with a code and an invite link. Empty seats get bots when you press Start.

Everyone sees the same inventions and has 45 seconds a round.

FAQ

How many inventions are there? 94, from cuneiform writing in Uruk around 3200 BC to the iPhone in 2007, on every inhabited continent.

Where does the map come from? The country outlines come from Natural Earth, a free public-domain world map dataset. The map is drawn inside the game, with no map service involved.

Who counts as the inventor? Many inventions had several claimants. Each card names one well-documented first, and the prompt says exactly which event is meant, for example the first patent or the first public demonstration.
